Mysterious orange

I love dyeing with coreopsis, it might be my favourite dye flower. This week I used the dried dark red flowers harvested last year and I was afraid I might just get brown (it has happened). I used Ecru and our new Pebble yarns. They came from the bath quite gorgeous and improved again when washed with our secret ingredient, Palmolive soap. Temperature and pH are variables that have an impact on the colour but how I love these surprises. The yellow is the faithful Chamomile. How they brighten up a February day though, and we are good to go with more Betty kits.
